West Run Road closed this week

West Run Road, near Point Marion Road, will be closed due to drilling Monday through Friday, according to Monongalia County Sheriff Perry Palmer.

The road will be closed from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. each day this week, he said. A deputy will be posted on either end of the closure.

Triad Engineering will be doing core drilling to take samples for a West Virginia Division of Highways study, according to its drilling engineer John Haynes. He said the DOH is considering widening that road.

Triad did a similar project in April or May, he said.

“Last time we would work on one end of it at a time and shut that section down,” Haynes said.

Palmer said West Run Apartments will still be accessible from Stewartstown Road and said people should expect traffic delays this week.

WVDOH Spokesperson Brent Walker did not respond to an email sent on Thursday requesting information about the construction.

Improvements to West Run Road between Stewartstown Road and Point Marion Road are under an environmental study, with right-of-way acquisition planned for 2020 and construction after, according to the Morgantown Monongalia Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Executive Director Bill Austin.

The work will include widening and improvements to the intersection with Point Marion Road as well as enhanced access to the Bartlett House. Originally budgeted at $6.4 million, Austin said that price tag is likely closer to $16 million.
